SUMMARY: According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the jobless rate in 2014 for post 9/11 female veterans was 8.5% compared to 6.9% for their male counterparts. With over 3.2 million post 9/11 veterans, and 20% being women, this unemployment rate is particularly concerning. There have been government initiatives, such as the 2009 executive order to recruit and hire veterans for government jobs. Other corporations like Deutsche Bank, Citigroup and Goldman Sachs have created ‘Veterans on Wall Street’ to give veterans an opportunity to enter the corporate world. These initiatives are part of a larger push to remedy the high unemployment rate, especially for female veterans.
