The DREAM Lab 2026: Call for
Applicants
What is the lab: Led by Dr. Megan Mackenzie, this intensive in-person week-long lab trains students to rethink Canada’s military and defence spending in response to complex security threats. Participants will develop policy analysis skills, explore key security concepts, and collaborate on research into alternative spending priorities.
This year’s lab focuses on gendered forms of insecurity in Canada. Students will examine how issues such as gender-based violence, economic inequality, healthcare gaps, Indigenous women’s safety, and other structural inequalities create insecurity for many Canadians. Participants will analyze how government spending currently addresses security and develop alternative spending proposals that better respond to these gendered and human security challenges. Working in teams, students will present their findings through written reports and a public webinar.
